The Road to Emmaus

Visual Meditation on the Post Resurrection Appearance of Jesus

That very day two (disciples of Jesus) were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven mile from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him…

So they drew near to the village to which they were going. (Jesus) acted as if he were going farther, 29 but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him.

Visual Meditation. Using the Emmaus Art Meditation video, you will be led through a visio divina (sacred seeing) of the story using the painted mural by the Latin American artist-priest, Maximino Cerezo Barredo. He said, “What I want to convey through painting is God’s way of being that is embodied in the humanity of Jesus of Nazareth. He’s not a distant, absent God, but a God who became human in Jesus.” Cerezo has painted a man and a woman as the two disciples, following the idea that Cleopas was returning home with his wife. (See resource below). Prepare for the meditation by entering into a quiet space, asking the Lord to be present in the Scripture and the art.

Indeed sometimes our human nature blinds us from seeing and hearing from God. However the more we invite Chist to dwell in us, the more we understand him and follow his guidance.

Thank you Dr. Robbi, have done this twice to find peace in my heart and surely like how the two people were blind and eventually started seeing things clearly. I pray that the risen Lord may open my heart and mind towards him every day. Amen
